The vision of the Project Caerodrome is to have a network of hubs that will operate the unmanned aerial robotic services in the region. The regions that we are talking particularly at this stage are the rough terrains of Himalayas that spread in the northern and north eastern states of India, Nepal and Bhutan. 

What do we essentially need in the structure of these ports?

  1. Minimalism: We need the Caerodromes to have been created using the minimalistic designs that are easy to replicate and maintain.
  2. Low-cost: We need the structure to be a low-cost structure made preferably from locally available materials.
  3. Resilience: We need the structure to be disaster-resilient – especially for earthquakes and floods.
  4. Space: We need to have sufficient space for storage, take-off, recovery, assembly, maintenance and monitoring.
  5. Location: We need these hubs to be at different levels – a) close to healthcare facilities such as hospitals, blood banks, vaccine depots, pharmacies and labs (all of these services in one location will be desirable); b) close to communities; c) close to the disaster management cell in the district/ city

Technologies: The Caerodromes will be equipped with the basic technologies that will enable connecting healthcare facilities to the communities.

  1. Fleet of Drones: The Caerodromes shall house a fleet of different drones meant for different needs. We will be having various drones of different sizes and configurations to exactly serve the request in the fastest and most reliable way. We would be having a mix of fixed wings, multirotors and hybrid drones, simple use or complex use, one-way delivery, two-way delivery and multi-delivery, AI-enabled action oriented drones and having payloads that range from 50 mg to 50 kg.
  2. Communication and Tracking systems: These include systems that will take requests, classify them, assign tasks to specific drone systems, create flight paths, get instant approvals, monitor assembly, take-off, delivery, mission completeness and success, and keep records of the flight mission.
  3. Maintenance: Pre-flight checks and post-flight checks for safety, minor fixes and regular servicing will be done locally at the hubs by the technical team. Advanced damages will be reported to and managed at the central command center. Every damage will have an incident report with preventive measures listed and reviewed.

Team: The whole operational team would comprise of a strong technical team of locally trained professionals and technicians that will perform all the needed functions while the operations are overseen by the general managers. The core technical team would be

  1. Pilots
  2. Maintenance
  3. Trackers
  4. Analysts

Command Center: These ports will be regulated by a central command center that will trace, track and monitor every drone flight from every hub. The Command Centre will also double up as a repair center for major damages and be the training and managing headquarters.

Safety and Security: Safety of each mission will be at par with aeronautical safety standards in aviation industry.
